About Course

ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Physics is headed by Dr. Nagabhushana N. M. The department comprises a team of dynamic and highly qualified faculty members, many of whom are actively guiding Ph.D. scholars and are deeply committed to research, innovation, and academic excellence. A well-equipped Physics Laboratory serves First-Year B.E. students of all branches, offering advanced facilities that provide an enriching hands-on learning experience in fundamental physics experiments.

The department is recognized as a Research Centre by Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). To date, 08 Ph.D. scholars have been awarded, and 05 research scholars are currently pursuing their doctoral studies. Faculty members and research scholars have collectively contributed over 80 national and international publications, as well as books and book chapters, demonstrating strong research productivity and citation impact.

The department is actively engaged in research in the following areas: Radiation Physics, Materials Science, Spectroscopy, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, and the synthesis, characterization, and sensor studies of polymers and composites. Faculty members play vital roles in academic and professional bodies by serving as reviewers for reputed international journals, editorial board members, and contributors to BOS, BOE, RAC, and other committees. They are frequently invited as conference chairs, keynote speakers, resource persons, and invited talk speakers, and have received several awards and recognitions for their academic and research contributions.

The department places strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional development. Faculty members regularly participate in FDPs, seminars, and workshops conducted under the Basic Science Forum. The department also organizes SDPs, seminars, and workshops for both students and staff, fostering a vibrant research culture and supporting holistic academic growth. The department holds more than 15 lifetime professional body memberships and has gained advanced technical training and instrumentation calibration expertise from premier institutions such as BARC, Mumbai, and IUAC, New Delhi.

3. To motivate students towards research, higher education, and lifelong learning by nurturing critical thinking, curiosity, and ethical scientific practices.

4. To support interdisciplinary research and collaboration in emerging areas of science and technology relevant to industry and societal development.

5. To inculcate professional ethics, environmental awareness, and social responsibility among students for holistic development.

6. “What one man calls God, another calls the Laws of Physics.” Nikola Tesla.

HOD MESSAGE

“What one man calls God, another calls the Laws of Physics.”

Physics is the fundamental science. Physics means “nature”. Thus, physics is the most important basis for engineering and technology, and as such engineering is applied Physics. To understand nature, one has to do careful observations. Observations play a decisive role in the study of “nature”. To become a good engineer, one must clutch the basic principles and the laws of nature. The study of nature is possible through assumptions, theories, experiments, results, analysis, logical reasoning and mathematical formulations because mathematics is the language of Physics. Understanding the principles of physics is worth enjoying the engineering. I am proud and elated to be a physicist.
